"What am I going to do with the kids for six weeks!?" we overheard repeatedly as the parents and carers that attend Tuesday Toddler Club chatted to each other. Six weeks with no school or term time routine can feel like a looming marathon to those with young children!
So we grabbed the opportunity to get creative and run our first 'stay & play' style Family Summer Club two days a week for six weeks. Being a small church family we couldn't pull it off without the help of our Toddler Club parents, child minders and nannies, who kindly volunteered their time to make the space fun and safe.
Tie dye T-shirt designing, pizza baking, biscuit decorating, face-painting and junk modelling were some of the things that kept the young hands and minds busy and smiling. From babies to toddlers to young teens, we welcomed such a lovely and lively bunch through our doors as the weeks went on.
It was a great setting to have those chats that you normally don't have time for in the rush of term time, what a privilege it was to hear more of people's stories and to pray for Jesus healing power to mend aching ears and twisted ankles, and to share that Jesus' free gift of abundant & eternal life is why we are compelled to run the club for free.
140 children, 100 adults, many slices of toast, bunches of bananas, piles of pizza toppings, bottles of paint, and cups of tea later we were finished and it was back to school.
What a creative Summer we had together, and now a large collage painting that the children made hangs in our church hall as a reminder. Thank you to all those little artists that got there hands messy!
Thank you to all those who helped make Family Summer Club 2022 so fun!
You make all the difference. You know who you are!
And thank you to our King Jesus for leading us and teaching us to love our community well.
